The Fool, Tarot Card

The Fool is number 0 in the Tarot's Major Arcana, the 22 cards of the journey of the soul. The Fool represents the cosmic child of the universe, the innocent and the wise intuitive one. He is the circle, the unconsciousness and innocence that we humanity have before falling into our reality of consciousnesses. It is our journey into individuation. The fool can show up at any moment of our lives, he connects the end with the beginning, endlessly. Here we see an androgynous being, male and yet female. A Balinese who is starting a new life of adventure full of hope. His head looking upwards he does not see where he is going, the dog at his feet is a Balinese breed, a Kitamani. The dog represents many things, loyalty, protection, warning and in this imagery one of celebration.
The Sun has the Balinese symbol of Om, the seed sound of the Universe, the sum total of all creation. The cloth bundle holds all the tools of life that the Fool needs. The chasm below is the state of consciousness into which we descend into to take the path of the soul. In his hand is a Topeng mask, this symbol represents the Trickster/Hero the alter ego. Topeng masks are used in the Balinese dance and theater either as a clown or hero. More about the symbolism in my book, I hope soon to be published.
